Frontpen – Front-End Text Editor & Internal Links

Frontpen is a front-end text editor for WordPress that helps site owners and content teams make everyday updates directly on a post or page. Correct a typo, refresh an outdated sentence, or add a relevant internal link while viewing your content.

Click Edit page, select an outlined text region, and make your changes. Use Save changes, or enable autosave. Frontpen supports paragraphs, headings and list items in the block editor, plus supported classic HTML content.

New: edit links and find internal pages

Select words and click Insert/edit link, or use Ctrl/Cmd+K. Paste a URL or search your site’s published posts and pages. Click an existing link in edit mode to change its destination or remove the link while keeping its text.

• Search published posts and pages without switching to another tab.

• Update old destinations, email links, phone links and section anchors.
• Choose whether a link opens in a new tab.
• Mark paid links as sponsored, or use nofollow when appropriate.

Link search uses your own WordPress REST API. No external search service, account or API key is needed.

Content and access controls

Frontpen updates supported text content while preserving its surrounding block markup and layout attributes. It can edit text nested inside Groups and Columns when the text block itself is supported.

Classic HTML support includes paragraphs, headings, list items, table cells, captions and definition lists when the rendered element can be matched to stored content.

Only logged-in users who already have permission to edit a post can use Frontpen. Settings let administrators choose allowed roles, allow individual users, or block individual users. Per-user rules never grant WordPress editing capabilities the user does not already have.

Lock a whole post from the edit screen, or add the CSS class frontpen-no-edit to an individual block. The server checks permissions, locks and allowed content before saving.

What Frontpen does not edit

Frontpen is for supported post content. It does not edit theme templates, menus, custom fields, page-builder widgets, WooCommerce prices, or product metadata. Unsupported posts and pages offer a link to the standard WordPress editor. It does not replace an SEO metadata plugin or promise higher rankings.
