Are your WordPress emails landing in spam, or not arriving at all? Most of the time that’s because WordPress sends mail with PHP’s mail() function, which many hosts don’t handle well. SMTP Connector fixes this. Password resets, WooCommerce orders, contact form messages and every other email your site sends go through a real SMTP server from your email provider.
It’s free, lightweight and has no upsells. Setting it up takes a couple of minutes: pick your provider, enter your login, send a test email, and you’re done.
What you get
- One-click quick setup for Gmail and Google Workspace, Zoho Mail, Amazon SES, Brevo (formerly Sendinblue), Mailgun and SendGrid. It fills in the server details for you.
- Works with any SMTP server, including local relays that don’t need a login.
- Test email: send yourself a message from the settings screen. If something is wrong, you see the exact error your SMTP server returned, not a vague “it failed”.
- Email log: see which emails your site sent, when, to whom, and whether your SMTP server accepted them. Open any email in a safe preview. Choose how many days logs are kept, or turn the log off.
- Secure password storage: your SMTP password is encrypted with your site’s own security keys and is never shown again. A copy of your database alone can’t reveal it.
- Safe by default: until SMTP is configured, WordPress keeps sending emails the way it always did. Nothing breaks when you activate the plugin.
- A clean, modern settings screen that also works on your phone.
- Multisite ready, translation ready, no tracking, and no calls to outside services.
What’s new in 1.4.0
1.4.0 is the biggest update so far:
- It fixes a bug that sent every email twice.
- Saving your SMTP password is now reliable.
- The settings screen is redesigned, with one-click provider setup and a status card that shows how your emails travel.
- Failed emails now show the exact error in the email log.
The full list of changes is on the Development tab of this page.
Works with
Anything that sends email through WordPress’s wp_mail() function, which is almost everything: WooCommerce, Contact Form 7, WPForms, Gravity Forms, Elementor forms, membership and LMS plugins, and WordPress itself (password resets, new user emails, comment notifications).
Privacy
SMTP Connector doesn’t track you and doesn’t contact any outside service. Your emails go only to the SMTP server you configure. When the email log is on, copies of sent emails are stored in your own WordPress database and deleted automatically after the number of days you choose. A suggested privacy policy text is added under Settings > Privacy.
