Turgor Exam Engine is a full LMS for WordPress, built around competitive-exam style tests. Run mock tests with negative marking, timed papers in sections and numeric-range answers, and build the courses that lead up to them, all on your own WordPress site and database – not a hosted service.

Made for coaching institutes, test-series sellers and teachers preparing students for exams like SSC, IBPS, JEE, NEET, GATE and CSIR NET.

Exam engine

  • Eight question types: single choice, multiple choice, fill in the blank, free answer (which can accept a numeric range – an answer key of “6300..6400”, as GATE and IIT JAM publish), sorting, matching, rating scale and essay. Seven are marked automatically; essays wait on the Results screen for a teacher to mark.
  • Negative marking, with a per-question penalty where a paper needs one.
  • Standalone mock tests: open any quiz to every signed-in student from its own page, no course needed.
  • Timed papers split into named sections, with retake limits and question and answer shuffling. (A separate timer per section is part of Exam Mode in Turgor Exam Engine Pro.)
  • A question bank with categories, difficulty levels and topics: search it, filter it and edit any question, and every quiz that uses it changes with it.
  • A Results screen listing every attempt, where you mark essays, give a student their retakes back, or re-mark attempts after correcting an answer key.
  • Sitewide defaults for every setting, overridable on any single quiz.
  • A per-question review after submission, and a results chart students can see with [turgee_quiz_results].
  • Random questions: a section draws questions from a question-bank category, so every student gets a different paper.
  • Live tests with open and close times: nobody starts outside the window, and anyone still sitting the quiz is stopped at closing time.
  • Question analysis on Results: right, wrong and blank counts per question and the average time, hardest first.
  • Reading passages shared by several questions, and LaTeX formulae drawn as typeset maths.
  • Choose when students see the right answers: straight away, when no attempts are left, after the quiz closes, or never.

Courses

Build each course as an outline of sections, topics, lessons, sub-lessons and quizzes. Drag items into place or use the + buttons, create a lesson or quiz by typing its title, and set prerequisites and completion rules per course. Students see the same outline on the course page.

  • Drip content: a lesson or quiz opens a set number of days after access begins, and/or not before a date.
  • Assignments, marked with a mark and feedback, and lesson discussions using ordinary WordPress comments.
  • Lesson videos with chapters, a speed menu and resume.
  • Gutenberg blocks and shortcodes for course lists, quizzes, progress, results and sign-in.
  • Open, no-signup courses and one-click free enrollment.
  • A Quick start checklist and a one-click sample course to get a new site running.
  • An Instructor role that can mark essays and see results without being an administrator.

Already running LearnDash?

A guided import brings your courses, lessons, quizzes and enrolled students across, with verification tools that check the migration actually worked before you switch over – nothing is deleted or changed on your live site until you say so.

Want to sell what you build?

Turgor Exam Engine is free and complete on its own. Turgor Exam Engine Pro adds Exam Mode (the computer-based exam screen, with a timer per section and partial marks for multiple choice), WooCommerce and Google Play Billing checkout, bundled Products (and, when moving from LearnDash, bringing groups, bundles and WooCommerce products across, with checks that paid courses moved over correctly), class reports, certificates issued automatically on completion, copy protection for lesson and quiz content, and student feedback tools. Pro is one purchase that includes all of it, and it is never required: everything in Turgor Exam Engine works fully without it.
